Systems that monitor network or host activity to detect and block malicious behavior.
An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) monitors network or host activity for signs of malicious behavior and raises alerts, while an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) goes further and actively blocks detected threats.
IDS/IPS supports HIPAA's requirement to protect against and respond to ePHI threats. The alerts they generate feed audit logging and an organization's incident response plan.
