Single-Tenant Hosting

A hosting model where one customer's environment runs on infrastructure shared with no other tenant, simplifying isolation and risk analysis.

Single-tenant hosting is a model where one customer's environment runs on infrastructure shared with no other tenant. The opposite is multi-tenant hosting, where many customers share the same servers, as on consumer shared hosting plans.

HIPAA does not mandate single tenancy, but isolation is a recurring Security Rule theme, and a single-tenant environment removes cross-tenant exposure from the risk analysis entirely. It is the model most specialist providers of HIPAA compliant hosting use for ePHI workloads, and one of the five tests in our guide to the best HIPAA compliant hosting providers.
