Disaster Recovery Plan

The documented process for restoring systems and data after a major disruption.

A Disaster Recovery Plan is the documented process for restoring information systems, applications, and data after a major disruption such as a hardware failure, cyberattack, or natural disaster.

Under HIPAA it is a required component of the broader contingency plan. Its effectiveness is measured against RTO and RPO targets and depends on reliable backups.
